“Boulevard of Broken Dreams” is one of the worst rock songs of 2005.

There’s nothing “punk” about it, nothing rock about it, and in general it’s just crap. I’m very disappointed it didn’t win the “best group crap” award. That would have been cool.

Everyone has different tastes, but the only political song on this album is American Idiot. I don’t know why people think the whole album is political. The rest of the album is a rock-opera about Jimmy. (Who at the end “shoots his brains out into the bay”).

It’s not like those other average GD albums since Dookie, and it’s def. not punk. But it’s still damn good. In my opinion.

I am a Green Day fan - but of the older songs. “Dookie” and “Insomniac” are wall-to-wall great albums (”Warning” is an awesome song but shite album). Ever since hearing “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” I have lost interest. What kind of a “punk” band comes up with schlock like that? Also, I saw them in concert last year for the American Idiot tour and it sucked - why the hell are they playing Queen covers? They have moved from an alternative band to totally wanting to be an anthem rock stadium band - for shame! Again, although I don’t mind the “American Idiot” song itself, the album as a whole is pretty crappy and if I hear that “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” song one more time I, I, I…don’t know what I’ll do. As far as in the pantheon of rock, Green Day is nowhere near U2, completely different than The Killers (and only time will only tell how long they last) and some might argue almost as influential as The Clash on reviving “punk” into the mainstream (although I think The Clash is a far more influential band). Now had they done a Clash cover live I might be singing a different tune!

Have to agree with Dave on this one. I liked them better when they were rocking out about masturbation. Or when ‘BJ’ came up with the eternal end of high school anthem “Time Of Your Life”. This political shit doesn’t suit them and their sound has not evolved since Dookie at all. Not to mention that they are completely over played by every music medium. Maybe better than Franz, completely different from The Killers and not even comparable to U2. Come on! They jumped on a political bandwagon to sell those 7 million albums and boy did it work.

I’ve been a casual greenday fan since Dookie, but the new album really surprised me when I picked it up a couple of months ago…

And I saw a stat before the VMA’s, American Idiot has already sold 7 million albums… Dookie only sold 10… thats a shite load of cash…

That isn’t a very good link you posted, it’s a bullshit random comment with nothing to back it up.

The chords between the two songs are completely different. It’s not even the same root chords by name, even if you take the Capo off Wonderwall. The most you could say is that the chords are relative to each other on the fretboard, but Noel plays open chords with a capo, and Billy-Joe plays power chords. - and it’s all in a different rhyme. It’s like comparing High and Dry to Come as you Are.

But seriously, this really is a great album, it’s one of the best albums in the last couple years. Better than the Killers, better than Franz, and better than U2’s latest.
