Operation: Basement

It wasn't easy to find alternate storage places for all the furniture, etc. that the basement's been housing but we eventually got it emptied out. The sloping yard allows for a real rarity - a basement with a view. Spencer is my lead on the project. He tells me what materials to buy and then puts it together. I help and hopefully learn a thing or two.
Just when you think you've moved out all the crap... The spirit orbs of departed home improvement fans show up to scare the shit out of us. The first order of business is encasing the support beams and posts with stained wood - which will match the wainscoting and baseboards.
Then it's on to a drop-ceiling with pot lights. This area will likely be the pool table locale, and I have both a disassembled slate table and hang-down light waiting in storage for the happy day we're all finished. Eventually we cleared out the last of the kipple, then swept, shop vac'd and mopped. The back corner will likely be home to the bigscreen with full surround sound and some nice new leather recliners. The further away from the master bedroom, the better.
Another view of the back corner. The utility room entrance will have a subtle door installed with a removable stairway kept on the other side. Spencer slathering stain, or lost photos of a young Jack Nicholson? Is that the bouquet of an '06 Minmar Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner?
Is that a purple squirrel? More wood than a motherfucker. The stained pine will cover the beams, posts, exposed cement on one side of the room and will also be used as molding.

Description: Our basement is unfinished but I have always seen huge potential. There are 5 windows and the space itself is roomy and certainly fit for my fantasy project of the last several years - a pub-style rec room complete with bigscreen, pool table and bar. Tonight we finally got started.
